SHANGHAI AMERICAN SCHOOL (SAS) PUDONG

REVIEW 1:

"I have a daughter, a 1st grader in SAS. Her teacher has a system which I felts is very good, I do not have to monitor my daughter's homework. Every Monday, my child comes home with a schedule with all the week's homework, including the daily 15 minutes of reading. The child is to check each completed homework. For every incomplete work, a warning note follows the next day. I have been told that each child has their own tray of stationary and worksheets and should they run low in any stationary, they are responsible in informing their teacher. Quite a good way of learning to be independent.

As an early start to writing journals, each child is given some time everyday to write in their journals, anything they feel like writing. Another good way to build up writing habit. I have been having problem trying to convince my child to write in her diary, but now, she does it in school everyday.

Finally, I have recently attended an Arthur's Tea Session in class. Each child has completed a storybook. There we get to see their planning of storyline, their draft, their final write-up with illustration. To be honest, I am impressed.

This is a very different learning system, but I feel that my child is really enjoying her experience in the school."
